In an effort to foster joint research on high performance computing, Rice and Compaq Computer Corporation have entered into an alliance that involves three research projects:
- advanced Java compilation (Kennedy)
- memory hierarchy management and OpenMP (Kennedy, Cox, Mellor-Crummey, Zwaenepoel)
- integer and mixed-integer programming (Cook, Applegate, Bixby).
In addition, there is a major computational facility consisting of forty-eight Compaq Alpha processors. This partnership is the first step in what is seen as a much broader collaboration between Rice and Compaq.
